If you are running a website or doing internet marketing, then you should know about some essentials SEO terms. These are most commonly used term, but here I am going to define more deeply.

Alt Tag

Alt Tag is used to define image in your HTML code. Generally Alt Tag is used to provide alternate text when images cannot be displayed.

Backlinks are most important term in SEO. Backlinks mean links to your website from other websites. Number and quality of backlinks can give you better result in search engine.

Broken Link

Broken link mean link that not functioning or link that have no destination. Too many broken links can kick out you from search engine and can face any penalty from Google.

Black Hat SEO

Black hat SEO is an illegal SEO techniques that used to come up in ranking within very short time. Now a day every search engine has algorithms to detect these things, so never go for black hat SEO, it’ll hurt you after some time.




Cost Per Click, Generally CPC is rate of measuring the expense involved with acquiring web traffic. CPC can be calculated by taking the cost of total campaign and dividing by the total number of clicks.

Click Through Rate (CTR)

CTR mean total number of clicks out of total clicks. Click-Through Rate (CTR) Formula: CTR = (Unique Clicks / Unique Impressions) x 100

Content Delivery Network, A content delivery network is a large distributed system of servers deployed in multiple data centers across the Internet. The objective of a CDN is to serve content to end-users with high availability and high performance.


Cloaking is a Black-Hat search engine optimization (SEO) technique in which the content presented to the search engine spider is different from that presented to the user’s browser. Generally this technique used by spammers.


It is also called search bot or spider, it is a program that crawl website on behalf of search engines. Crawler crawl the website and gather information. After that it passed this information to algorithms then algorithm decides where this website has to show against this query.





Directories mean where you can submit your business or website information. You can also generate backlinks through web directories. Yahoo! Directory and Dmoz are most popular web directories.


The main address of your website call domain name. For example, it’s called domains name. Attractive & branded domain name can help you to make your online entity.




A small icon which appears before title or next to URL in browser. Different browser shows at different place.

Keyword Searches

It means total number of searches for a specific keyword. You can also check totally search of a keyword by the help of Google Keyword Planner and other tools.

Keyword Density

It means % of targeted keyword in article. According to SEO rules, 2-3% keyword density is enough. If your article is of 100 words and you are using targeted keyword 3 times, so it means your keyword density is 3%.

Meta Tags

Meta tags not important but can help you to get better place in search engine. 2-3 relevant tag is enough for each article.
